Professor Robert "Bob" Dawson, commonly referred to as just Professor Dawson or Dawson in-game, is a university professor, University of Massachusetts alumni, hobbyist InviZimal fighter, and a major supporting character in the InviZimals franchise. The closest ally of Kenichi, Dawson is thoroughly invested in the study of InviZimals. His favorite InviZimal is the Firecracker, although he has used other InviZimals on certain occasions. His son, Scott Dawson, does not appear until InviZimals: The Lost Tribes.
Dawson serves as the main tutorial character as it pertains to Vector attacks.
InviZimals[]
In the first InviZimals, Dawson is a researcher in the subject of InviZimals, much like Kenichi. Dawson helps teach the player the basics of InviZimal combat, and is commonly teaching the player how vectors work.
During the story, Dawson has a battle with Akira, that ends rather poorly. However, during the battle, Dawson observed his Firecracker emitting light when it was hit, which allowed Dawson to discover Sparks, and came to the conclusion that InviZimals were made of energy, specifically light.
After Kenichi is kidnapped by Axel Kaminsky, Kaminsky proceeds to thrash Dawson's library, ruining many aspects of Dawson's research.
During the climax of the story, Dawson hijacks the signal from the Viper's Nest so that he and Jazmin Nayar can warn the player of Kaminsky's immense power.
InviZimals: Shadow Zone[]
In Shadow Zone, Dawson reunites with his friends, and participates in a friendly tournament with the player and Dawson's friends. Dawson is tasked with exploring North America, starting with Mexico, where he searches ruins and looks for Kukulkan.
While Dawson is flying, Kenichi sends him the mysterious InviZimal that he found and tested in battle, warning Dawson of its anomalies. The InviZimal bit him, and prompted Dawson to study it thoroughly. After which, Dawson determined that this InviZimal was made of "Dark Light" and that it was very inherently dangerous as a result, with the potential to deal damage to PSP systems.
As he explores Native American settlements and forests in the Southwest United States, Dawson's adventures begin to take a turn, as he becomes increasingly delusional, fearing that something is chasing him through a forest of California Redwoods. As the player collects Native American InviZimals, Dawson, now terrified, alerts the player that a local tribe of Native Americans has found another dark InviZimal, and has tasked the player with retrieving it through a tournament, citing the need to further study these Dark creatures. After winning the tournament and retrieving the Dark InviZimal, Dawson begins to unravel, laughing maniacally and talking in a very bombastic manner. Dawson reveals to the player the potential existence of Shapeshifter.
Later, while Kenichi calls Dawson to report his findings from Egypt, Dawson is in a terrible state mentally, barely capable of stringing together sentences and talking in a very strained voice, warning of the Dark InviZimals and their influence. Kenichi comes to the conclusion that the Dark InviZimals in Dawson's posession are corrupting him.
By the time Kenichi learns of Campbell's plan to open a portal at Stonehenge, Dawson has fully recovered and travels with Kenichi to face down Campbell. However, Campbell is able to corrupt Dawson once again, and makes him attack Kenichi, but the player stands up to Dawson and defeats him, destroying his Dark Flameclaw. With the Dark Flameclaw destroyed and Dawson defeated, he returns to his senses, albeit exhausted from battle. After Campbell is defeated and dragged to The Wave, Dawson implores Kenichi not to enter the portal to the Shadow Zone alongside the Dark Icelion. However, Kenichi tells Dawson that he needs to do this, and enters The Wave anyway, disappearing from the human world, devastating Dawson.
InviZimals: The Lost Tribes[]
Ever since Kenichi disappeared, Dawson has grown completely despondent from the loss of his best friend, and has cut off communication from all of his friends, living in solitude on an island in Scotland. Not even Dawson's son has been able to communicate with him, and Dawson never appears in-person in The Lost Tribes, save for recordings of the tutorials Dawson created still being able to be played. Dawson's friends are deeply concerned for his wellbeing and wish he could return to helping them with their adventures.
